Clinical Audit: Irish Hip Fracture Database

Every year, in Ireland, in excess of 3000 over 60 year olds are hospitalised following a hip fracture. There are significant morbidity and mortality issues associated with this common injury and health care costs are high.  International evidence has shown us that improved care standards, continual audit and regular feedback drives quality improvement in hip fracture outcomes.

The aim of the IHFD is to use the acquired data to facilitate process and organisational change to ensure delivery of internationally recognised best standards of surgical, medical and rehabilitative care in order to achieve maximal recovery for patients with hip fractures and to prevent further falls and fractures.

Surgeons who are participating in this audit may choose to use this to satisfy the annual audit requirement. For more information and to see the Irish Hip Fracture Database National Report 2013 please visit www.noca.ie
