REMINDER - Upload your Credits for 2012 - 2013

We note that many doctors have not recorded any CPD credits or a clinical audit for the 2012 – 2013 Professional Competence Scheme term

On reviewing the Professional Competence Annual Statements of Participation for the period 2012 – 2013, we note that many doctors have not recorded any CPD credits or a clinical audit for the 2012 – 2013 Professional Competence Scheme term. Maintenance of professional competence is a flexible, self-directed and practice based process for which you are responsible.

We would encourage you to start recording your CPD activity and if you have any difficulty with this, please do not hesitate to contact pcs@rcsi.ie / 01 402 2743 in order that we can assist you with this.

We would like to offer assistance to practitioners who, for whatever reason, find it difficult to comply with the Medical Council requirements. If you feel you need additional support in meeting these requirements going forward, we would be happy to provide this where resources permit. Please email us on pcs@rcsi.ie to set out your requirements or arrange to meet with the PCS team.

Medical Council Professional Competence Audit
The Medical Council will shortly commence an audit of doctors for the PCS term 2012 – 2013.

The Medical Council will shortly commence an audit of doctors for the PCS term 2012 – 2013.   They will select doctors for audit and write to these doctors requesting evidence of maintenance of professional competence.  If you receive this correspondence from the Medical Council, you are required to submit a Statement of Participation for the 2012 – 2013 term which is available on your RCSI PCS profile when you login.

The letters from the Medical Council will clearly set out what you are required to do. If you require any help or assistance with this, please do not hesitate to contact the RCSI Professional Competence Office.

RCSI Professional Competence Scheme Annual Verification Process
RCSI will shortly commence the PCS verificaiton process and randomly select doctors from the year 1st May 2012 – 30th April 2013.

As part of the arrangements agreed with the Medical Council, it is a requirement that each Postgraduate Training body undertake an annual verification of activities recorded by 3-5% of doctors enrolled on the professional competence scheme.   This is a separate process to the Medical Council’s maintenance of professional competence audit processes.

RCSI will shortly commence this process and randomly select doctors to participate in this verification process for the year 1st May 2012 – 30th April 2013.   This process involves checking on each of the activities that have been uploaded to a doctor’s Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) profile and the CPD credits assigned to each activity.  Certain activities require supporting documentation and, if this has not been uploaded, doctors are requested to upload (or submit) this evidence for each appropriate activity up to the minimum requirement – 50 CPD credits per year and one Clinical Audit.

This is a supportive exercise aimed to promote confidence in what doctors are recording, identify shortfalls and provide support to assist doctors in addressing shortfalls in meeting the Professional Competence Scheme requirements.
