REMINDER - Upload your CPD credits for 2013 2014
On reviewing the Professional Competence Annual Statements of Participation for the period 2013 – 2014, we note that many doctors have not recorded any CPD credits or a clinical audit for the 2013 – 2014

We would encourage you to start recording your CPD activity and if you have any difficulty with this, please do not hesitate to contact pcs@rcsi.ie / 01 402 2743 in order that we can assist you with this.

We would like to offer assistance to practitioners who, for whatever reason, find it difficult to comply with the Medical Council requirements. If you feel you need additional support in meeting these requirements going forward, we would be happy to provide this where resources permit. Please email us on pcs@rcsi.ie to set out your requirements or arrange to meet with the PCS team.

Professional Competence Scheme – Survey 2014
We would like to thank doctors for their engagement with the Survey which we circulated earlier in the year.   Some of these issues outlined in the survey

Some of these issues outlined in the survey – such as the requirements set out by the Medical Council – are outside our control.  However, we are making changes to our online recording system in response to issues raised in the survey and hope to go live with these shortly.  In response to feedback we are continually working to improve processes and will bring you a further update on improvements in the near future.

Medical Council Maintenance of Professional Competence Audits
We have received the following notification from the Medical Council advising that they will shortly be commencing Maintenance of Professional Competence Audits.

The Medical Council will shortly be commencing Maintenance of Professional Competence Audits. Doctors selected for audit will be requested to submit to the Medical Council Professional Competence Section documentation to demonstrate they are meeting professional competence requirements in line with statutory obligations.  For most doctors this will mean submitting a copy of their statement of participation.

If  you receive correspondence from the Medical Council requesting you to participate in audit, you will be required to submit a copy of your latest statement of participation. You will not be asked to submit individual CPD documents unless specifically requested by the Medical Council.  Correspondence will be sent to selected doctors shortly and doctors will be requested to submit the required documentation within the time period as set out in the request.

Failure by any doctor to cooperate with a request to participate in maintenance of professional competence audit is a contravention of rules made under the Medical Practitioners Act 2007, which is a serious matter that can place a doctor's continuing registration with the Medical Council at risk.

Further details are available on the Medical Council website at  http://www.medicalcouncil.ie/Information-for-Doctors/Professional-Competence/Monitoring-and-Audit/
