Medical Council requests PCS enrolment data from training bodies

The Medical Council recently requested the Medical Council Numbers for all doctors currently enrolled on the 2016/17 Professional Competence Schemes, which began on the 1st May 2016.  This data was required by the Medical Council before 17th October 2016.

As a recognised postgraduate training body, we were required under our contractual arrangements with the Medical council to supply this data.

All doctors who were not enrolled on the Professional Competence Scheme before 17th October 2016 received an email from the Medical Council pointing out that they are not enrolled in Professional Competence Scheme for 2016/2017 and that in order to retain registration with the Medical Council, doctors are required to declare that they are enrolled in a Professional Competence Scheme.  Failure to enrol is a breach of the legislative arrangements.  Doctors were instructed to contact their relevant training body and enrol without further delay.  There was no requirement to contact the Medical Council directly at this point in time.

The Medical Council wants to improve their understanding of any barriers to enrolling in a Professional Competence Scheme. To enable this, they have invited doctors to participate in a short survey about enrolment.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding this, please contact the PCS helpdesk pcs@rcsi.ie
