REMINDER: Renew Your PCS Enrolment 1st May 2018 - 30th April 2019

Many of you will already have renewed your enrolment for 2018 – 2019.   For those of you who have still to enrol, please be advised that you must be enrolled in a Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) and be able to confirm at retention of your registration with the Medical Council that you are enrolled and complying with the requirements of a PCS.

The Medical Council registration retention form advises doctors that they must pay their PCS enrolment fee for 2018- 2019 prior to retaining their registration with the Medical Council. Doctors will also be required to indicate on the retention form which Postgraduate Training Body they have enrolled on PCS with and declare that they have paid their enrolment fee for their PCS.

This means that you must now pay your PCS enrolment fee for PCS year 2018 – 2019 prior to retaining your registration with the Medical Council in June 2018.

If you are no longer on the Supervised, General, or Specialist section of the (Irish) Medical Council’s Register please notify this office by email pcs@rcsi.ie as this will allow us update our records and ensure that you do not receive unnecessary communication in relation to the PCS

Annual Verification Process : 1st May 2017 - 30th April 2018

We intend to commence the Verification Process for the PCS year 1st May 2017 - 30th April 2018 in May /June 2018

As part of the arrangements agreed with the Medical Council, it is a requirement that each Postgraduate Training body undertake an annual verification of activities recorded by 3-5% of doctors enrolled on the professional competence scheme. This is a separate process to the Medical Council’s maintenance of professional competence audit processes.

We intend to commence the Verification Process in May / June 2018.  We will randomly select doctors to participate in this process for the year 1st May 2017 – 30th April 2018. This process will involve checking the activities that have been uploaded to a doctor's Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) portfolio and the CPD credits assigned to each activity.

This is a supportive exercise aimed to promote confidence in what doctors are recording, identify shortfalls and provide support to assist you in meeting the Professional Competence Scheme requirements.
