Ongoing work in the National Clinical Programme in Surgery (NCPS)
The NCPS develops healthcare policy and models of care relating to surgery, such as the Model of Care for Acute Surgery and Model of Care for Elective Surgery. A key project for the NCPS over the next 6 months is the development of specialty models of care to act as a reference document for future development of the specialties of Vascular Surgery, Urology and ENT. This work, led by Specialty Clinical Advisors Mr Martin Feeley, Mr Eamon Rogers and Professor Michael Walsh, allows surgeons to define the future of their surgical specialty, especially how new ways of working and workforce development can enhance the services delivered to patients. A second area of focus for the NCPS is the ongoing implementation of the acute (unscheduled) model of care, especially focusing on specific activities that will support its implementation.
